Debo confesar que mi experiencia con esta hermosa ciudad comenzó hace poco, sin embargo, en este tiempo siento que he llegado a visitar tantos de esos pequeños rincones que la hacen especial y creo que aún me falta tanto por conocer de ella.

I must confess that my experience with this beautiful city began recently, however, in this time I feel that I have come to visit so many of those little corners that make it special and I think I still have so much more to learn about it.
En el 2017 inicié la aventura de conocer esta maravillosa ciudad con un pequeño viaje previo a Navidad y es aquí cuando me enamoré, pues Cuenca se llena de magia cada noche de diciembre al adornar sus principales calles y sectores con luces de colores y formas que evocan las miradas a más de uno.
Dentro de los lugares que he conocido te recomiendo algunos que seguro te harán querer regresar una y otra vez.
In 2017 I started the adventure of getting to know this wonderful city with a little trip before Christmas and it is here that I fell in love, because Cuenca is filled with magic every night in December when its main streets and sectors are decorated with lights of colors and shapes that evoke the looks of more than one person.
Among the places I've known, I recommend some that will make you want to come back again and again.
Museo Arqueológico Pumapungo
Es uno de los primeros lugares que conocí y me cautivó por sus figuras y antiguas estructuras que te relatan en cada uno de sus espacios la historia de la ciudad, puedes conocer un poco de su sistema de agricultura, sus costumbres y forma de vivir en la antigüedad y si tienes suerte puedes encontrar unas hermosas llamas que harán tu visita mucho más divertida e interesante. La entrada al lugar es gratuita, solo debes registrarte al ingresar, recorrerlo de principio a fin y disfrutar de la increíble vista que te da de Cuenca.
Pumapungo Archaeological Museum
It is one of the first places I knew and I was captivated by its figures and ancient structures which tells you in each of its spaces the history of the city. You can learn a little about their system of agriculture, customs and antiquity way of life in and if you are lucky you can find some beautiful Llamas that will make your visit much more fun and interesting. The entrance to the Museum is free. You just have to register at the entrance, go through it from the beginning to the end and enjoy the incredible view of Cuenca.
Puente Roto
Este lugar lleva un nombre bastante particular debido a la historia que posee detrás de él. Hace muchos años una creciente del Río Tomebamba se llevó aproximadamente la mitad del puente, por lo que en la actualidad y después de las adecuaciones necesarias se ha convertido en un hermoso mirador en el que puedes disfrutar de una espectacular vista de una parte de la ciudad.
El Puente Roto está ubicado a la altura de la Iglesia de Todos Los Santos en la Av. Paseo 3 de Noviembre; así mismo, a lo largo de esta calle se encuentra el Río Tomebamba que nos presenta un refrescante paisaje con varios espacios para poder descansar y disfrutar de la tranquilidad de la naturaleza, relajándonos con el sonido de uno de los cuatros ríos que atraviesan Cuenca.
Broken Bridge
This place has a rather particular name because of the history behind it. Many years ago a flood of the Tomebamba River took away approximately half of the bridge, so today and after the necessary adaptations it has become a beautiful viewpoint where you can enjoy a spectacular view of a part of the city.
The Broken Bridge is located at the height of the Church of Todos Los Santos on Paseo 3 de Noviembre Avenue; likewise, along this street is the Tomebamba River that presents us with a refreshing landscape with several spaces to be able to rest and enjoy the tranquility of nature, relaxing with the sound of one of the four rivers that cross Cuenca.
Parque Nacional Cajas
Es el lugar más emblemático de esta ciudad, lleno de tanta diversidad de flora y fauna, posee paisajes tan hermosos que serán capaces de capturar tu mirada más de una vez. De esta reserva natural he tenido la oportunidad de conocer 3 diferentes zonas:
Las Playas Encantadas, un hermoso lugar para observar un atardecer. Con un recorrido de 5km aproximadamente desde la carretera, entre montañas rocosas, vegetación diversa, páramos extensos y senderos pedregosos llegas a una cúspide muy alta que te permite observar las hermosas lagunas de Las Playas Encantadas, una mágica vista que te cautivará.
Llaviuco, un espectáculo natural al que podrás llegar tras recorrer 2.8km desde la carretera a la altura del km 15 de la vía Sayausí - Molleturo. Un hermoso sendero que permite observar una inmensa vegetación, una variedad de especies naturales y con una extensa laguna que te transmite paz y tranquilidad.
Taita Chugo, una sorprendente laguna rodeada de varias montañas. A este lugar puedes llegar atravesando el sendero de llaviuco entre bosques, llanos y montañas; luego de 5 horas de caminata valdrá la pena el paisaje que observarás. Mientras acampaba pude observar un cielo lleno de estrellas que te fascinará, un amanecer que te deslumbrará y un horizonte que te hará regresar.
Además de estos lugares existen muchos más que pueden conocer entre museos, senderos, iglesias, sectores y parques, también existen tradiciones que ponen en evidencia la cultura y la religiosidad de la Santa Ana de Los Cuatro Ríos.
Cajas National Park
It is the most emblematic place of this city, full of so much diversity of flora and fauna. It has such beautiful landscapes that will be able to capture your glance more than once. From this natural reserve I have had the opportunity to visit three different areas:
Las Playas Encantadas, a beautiful place to watch a sunset. With a route of approximately 5km from the road, between rocky mountains, diverse vegetation, extensive moors and stony paths you arrive at a very high peak that allows you to observe the beautiful lagoons of Las Playas Encantadas, a magical view that will captivate you.
Llaviuco Lake, a natural spectacle that you can reach after traveling 2.8 km from the road at km 15 of Sayausí - Molleturo road. A beautiful trail that allows you to observe immense vegetation, a variety of natural species and an extensive lagoon that transmits peace and tranquility.
Taita Chugo, a surprising lagoon surrounded by several mountains. You can reach this place by crossing the Llaviuco trail among forests, plains and mountains. After five hours of walking it will be worth the landscape you will see. While camping I could observe a sky full of stars that will fascinate you, a sunrise that will dazzle you and a horizon that will make you return.
Besides these places there are many more that you can visit among museums, trails, churches, sectors and parks. There are also traditions that highlight the culture and religions of Santa Ana de Los Cuatro Ríos.
Pase del Niño Viajero
Esta es una de las últimas fiestas del año, una de las más devotas; aquí se celebra al Niño Viajero. El 24 de diciembre de cada año los cuencanos dan un espacio para salir a las calles y mostrar su fe y devoción; es un tiempo de agradecimiento, algarabía, color y amor que se transmite de generación en generación. Durante esta época podrás encontrar en lugares emblemáticos de la ciudad un nacimiento, un árbol de Navidad y adornos gigantes formados por puntos de iluminación, por esto y más los invito a vivir alguna vez esta fiesta entre disfraces, cánticos y magia, donde podrás vivir el espíritu de la Navidad.
Pase del Niño Viajero
This is one of the last festivals of the year. One of the most devoted, here the Child Traveler is celebrated. Every year on December 24th, the people of Cuenca give a space to go out to the streets and show their faith and devotion. It is a time of gratitude, joy, color and love that is transmitted from generation to generation. During this time you can find in emblematic places of the city a nativity scene, a Christmas tree and giant ornaments formed by points of illumination. For this and more I invite you to participate in this celebration between disguises, songs and magic, where you can live the spirit of Christmas.
Corpus Christi
Conocida como “La Fiesta más dulce del mundo” en la que se expone la solemnidad con la que los cuencanos celebran la Santa Eucaristía. Alrededor del Parque Calderón se ubican diferentes puestitos en los que se muestran los exquisitos bocaditos que la ciudad ofrece para todos los celebrantes, mismos que esperan con ansias ver la quema de los castillos que se encienden al son de los cantos religiosos. Es una celebración que no te puedes perder, su comida, sus luces, su gente y la eucaristía.
Luego de esta breve explicación, que probablemente no le hace justicia a esta maravillosa ciudad, te invito a que la conozcas tú mismo. Entre los lugares y fiestas que he mencionado hay muchos más que seguro que harán querer volver muchas veces.
Corpus Christi
Known as "The Sweetest Feast in the World", it is the solemnity with which the people of Cuenca celebrate the Holy Eucharist. Around the Calderon Park there are different stands where the exquisite snacks that the city offers to all the celebrants are displayed, which are eagerly waiting to see the burning of the castles that are lit to the sound of religious songs. It is a celebration that you cannot miss, its food, its lights, its people and the Eucharist.
After this brief explanation, which probably does not do justice to this wonderful city, I invite you to get to know it yourself. Among the places and festivals I have mentioned there are many more that will surely make you want to come back many times.
