Constantemente nos maravillamos con la gran cantidad de fotografías y videos, que comparten los azuayos y visitantes, de nuestra preciosa zona andina. Dentro o fuera de la ciudad, siempre hay un rincón por descubrir o disfrutar. Por eso te queremos contar más de nuestra ciudad a través de fotografías e imágenes captadas por diversos profesionales y aficionados a la fotografía.

Tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar con Walter Mogrovejo, Andrés Matute, Christian Neira, Manuel Vega, Gabriel Yanza y Javier Morales. Fotógrafos, artistas y creadores de contenidos visuales que captan -en distintas formas y estilos- los paisajes de nuestra ciudad.

Walter Mogrovejo es un joven abogado cuencano, que nos compartió su afición por el uso de drones para tomar videos y fotografías de los lugares que más disfruta de la ciudad, pero desde el aire.

Nos comentó que hace 3, casi 4 años, experimentaba con un equipo muy básico y hacía fotografías de lugares concurridos de la ciudad, por su belleza y su fácil acceso.

Día a día intentó pulir este hobby para convertirlo en un trabajo mucho más profesional.

Posteriormente, se interesó por el trekking y las acampadas, hasta llegar a caminar 7 u 8 horas en las montañas, para llegar a lugares que no se visitan frecuentemente y que definitivamente no son de tan fácil acceso.

Walter está en plataformas sociales (Instagram, Youtube, Facebook y Tiktok) como @droneholic_ec. En estas cuentas podrás encontrar increíbles vistas de las diferentes Islas Galápagos, el Desierto de Palmira, Paute, Sevilla de Oro, las Palmas, la Represa Hidroeléctrica de Mazar, las lagunas y montañas del Parque Nacional Cajas, el Cerro Puñay, Cojitambo, el Centro de Azogues, entre otros.

Gracias al continuo esfuerzo por mejorar la calidad de sus capturas, Droneholic incluso tuvo la oportunidad de grabar un comercial, para una marca internacional, en Galápagos.

We constantly marvel at the large number of photographs and videos, shared by Azuayans and visitors, of our beautiful Andean area. Inside or outside the city, there is always a corner to discover or enjoy. That is why we want to tell you more about our city through photographs and images captured by various professionals and photography enthusiasts.

We had the opportunity to talk with Walter Mogrovejo, Andrés Matute, Christian Neira, Manuel Vega, Gabriel Yanza and Javier Morales. Photographers, artists and creators of visual content that capture - in different forms and styles - the landscapes of our city.

Walter Mogrovejo is a young lawyer from Cuenca, who shared with us his love of using drones to take videos and photographs of places he enjoys the most in the city, but from the air.

He told us that 3, almost 4 years ago, he experimented with very basic equipment and took pictures of crowded places in the city, due to its beauty and easy access.

Day by day he tried to polish this hobby to turn it into a much more professional job.

Later, he became interested in trekking and camping, until he could walk 7 or 8 hours in the mountains, to reach places that are not frequently visited and that are definitely not as easy to access.

Walter is on social platforms (Instagram, Youtube, Facebook and Tiktok) like @droneholic_ec. In these accounts you can find incredible views of the different Galapagos Islands, the Palmira Desert, Paute, Sevilla de Oro, Las Palmas, the Mazar Hydroelectric, the lagoons and mountains of the Cajas National Park, Cerro Puñay, Cojitambo, the Center de Azogues, among others.

Thanks to the continuous effort to improve the quality of its shots, Droneholic even had the opportunity to record a commercial, for an international brand, in Galapagos.

Sus videos del Cerro Puñay y del Desierto de Palmira fueron transmitidos por Teleamazonas para promocionar estos lugares. Mucha gente le escribió para preguntarle cómo llegar a estos puntos y eso lo motivó para seguir haciendo videos y mostrar bellezas ecuatorianas y cuencanas, puesto que nuestra ciudad es el punto de partida para muchas de estas aventuras.

Manuel Vega es desarrollador de software, en 2016 fundó Coworking Cuenca. Nos explica que, en ese año, una de las personas que trabajaba con él compró un dron y no le fue tan bien, así que se lo dejó a Manu. Pronto se compró nuevos equipos, después de practicar con el primero que tuvo y conforme pasó el tiempo, la tecnología también mejoró, ofreciéndole mayor estabilidad en el aire, calidad de las cámaras y autonomía.

“Llevo mi drone a donde sea que vaya, si puedo ir y levantar contenido lo hago. Por mi trabajo viajo muchísimo, hace poco estuve en México, en Tulum, en Cancún… en lugares así. Entonces está el desafío de generar contenido, incluso para sobrellevar la soledad de los viajes, ¿no? Me obliga a salir, a conocer gente nueva, conocer fotógrafos profesionales y preguntarles, mejorar técnicas. Mientras más aprendo, más sé que menos sé”.

His videos of Cerro Puñay and the Palmira Desert were broadcast by Teleamazonas to promote these places. Many people wrote to him to ask how to get to these points and that motivated him to continue making videos and showing Ecuadorian and Cuencan beauties, since our city is the starting point for many of these adventures .

Manuel Vega is a software developer, in 2016 he founded Coworking Cuenca. In that year, one of the people who worked with him bought a drone and it didn't go so well, so he left it to Manu. Soon he bought new equipment, after practicing with the first one he had and as time passed, the technology also improved, offering him greater stability in the air, quality of the cameras and autonomy.

“I take my drone wherever I go, if I can go and produce content I do it. Because of my work I travel a lot, recently I was in Mexico, Tulum, Cancun... places like that. Then there is the challenge of generating content, even to cope with the loneliness of travel, right? It forces me to go out, meet new people, meet professional photographers and ask them, improve techniques. The more I learn, the more I recognize that I know very little”.

En este recuento de fotógrafos y pilotos de drones, nos encontramos con Javier Morales (arquitecto de profesión, desde hace 10 años), nos impresionaron las composiciones que realizó, o capturó, en las calles antiguas del Centro Histórico en su cuenta: @urbaue. Prepárate para encontrar “postales” cuencanas.

“Hago fotografía de ciudad porque es un gusto casi instintivo. Lo heredé de las clases de historia de arquitectura (cuando estudiaba la carrera) y eso hizo que me preocupe mucho por la expresión, a través de la estética, de las civilizaciones. Me gusta muchísimo la geometría, seguramente por eso aprecio la arquitectura desde ese punto de vista y a la hora de componer mis imágenes... No hay ciudad, ni arquitectura sin personas, por eso espero encontrar ciertas situaciones”.

Javier vivió algún tiempo en Galápagos, sus fotografías al comienzo estuvieron inspiradas en la naturaleza, flora y vida silvestre. Puedes ver estas fotografías en una cuenta paralela: @urbaue.ec. En algún momento se vinculó también con la astrofotografía; nos relata que fue por curiosidad y por sentir un poco más cerca las maravillas que vemos en las noches estrelladas, sobre todo a las afueras de la ciudad.

“Hacer fotos a todo”, esta consigna nos llamó mucho la atención, puesto que se repite en nuestros entrevistados. Definitivamente se trata de aprender poco a poco y encontrar belleza en los lugares que se quiere recordar, situaciones y la vida diaria.

In this review of photographers and drone pilots, we meet Javier Morales (an architect by profession, for 10 years), we were impressed by the compositions he made, or captured, in the old streets of the Historic Center on his account: @urbaue. Get ready to find some Cuenca "postcards".

“I do city photography because it is almost an instinctive taste. I inherited it from Architectural History classes (when I was studying for my degree) and that made me a lot aware about the expression, through aesthetics, of civilizations. I really like geometry, surely that's why I appreciate architecture from that point of view and when composing my images... There is no city and no architecture without people, that's why I wait to find certain situations ”.

Javier lived for some time in the Galapagos, his photographs at the beginning were inspired by nature, flora and wildlife. You can see these photographs in a parallel account: @urbaue.ec. At some point he was also linked to astrophotography; he told us that it was out of curiosity and to feel a little closer to the wonders that we see on starry nights, especially on the outskirts of the city.

"Take pictures of everything", this slogan caught our attention, since it is repeated in our interviewees. It is definitely about learning little by little and finding beauty in the places you want to remember, situations and daily life.

Preguntamos a Walter sobre su lugar favorito dentro del Azuay y nos habló del Parque Nacional Cajas:

“Lo que me gusta es la montaña, las lagunas y los bosques de un lugar en especial; se llama “Mamamag”. El acceso a esta por la laguna Llaviuco. Me gustan los lugares de difícil acceso y mostrar la naturaleza. Por lo general, me inspira mucho estar en un lugar en medio de la nada, me inspira a salir, caminar varias horas y llegar a lugares como este”.

Pues si quieres conocer los lugares que verás en las cuentas que te presentamos aquí, te recomendamos contactar con una operadora, para que te acompañe un guía que conozca bien la zona. Podrán recomendarte sobre la ropa y zapatos para usar, el tipo de alimentos y bebidas que debes llevar, accesorios para climas húmedos o muy fríos, carpas, etc. Así estarás más seguro y evitarás cualquier tipo de mala experiencia, mientras te escapas de la ciudad para conocer más sobre los Andes.

We asked Walter about his favorite place in Azuay and he told us about Cajas National Park:

“What I like is the mountains, the lagoons and the forests of a special place; It is called "Mamamag". Access to this through the Llaviuco lagoon. I like places that are difficult to access and show nature. In general, it inspires me a lot to be in a place in the middle of nowhere, it inspires me to go out, walk for several hours and get to places like this ”.

Andres Matute es Comunicador, durante su tiempo en la universidad aprendió sobre producción de video y fotografía, así también descubrió su gusto por los drones.

“Definitivamente, con una cámara no puedes captar las tomas aéreas que el drone te permite. Eso me motiva a seguir. Hace dos semanas, por ejemplo, estuve en Carachula (Santa Isabel). Este es un lugar hermoso y es aún mejor si tienes la posibilidad de verlo desde ángulos que tus ojos no pueden captar a simple vista”.

Andres Matute studied Communications, during his time at university he learned about video production and photography, thus he also discovered his taste for drones.

“Definitely, with a camera you cannot capture the aerial shots that the drone allows you. That motivates me to continue. Two weeks ago, for example, I was in Carachula (Santa Isabel). This is a beautiful place and it is even better if you have the possibility to see it from angles that your eyes cannot catch with the naked eye ”.

También conocimos a Gabriel Yanza (@gabriel_art_); él es profesor de fotografía y comenzó a trabajar con drones hace ya 4 años. Como varios de nuestros entrevistados, este inicio se dio gracias a la búsqueda de nuevas perspectivas. Gabriel comenta que realizar fotografías con drone es muy diferente: cambian los colores, hay movimientos, diferentes planos, etc. Aunque estos equipos están preparados para realizar video, hay muchos aspectos básicos de la fotografía que funcionan y se pueden adaptar.

“Me llama mucho la atención la arquitectura cuencana. En el centro se puede volar fácilmente. Las luces al amanecer y al anochecer, más la luz y el contraste de las Cúpulas de la Catedral (por ejemplo)... se ven imágenes hermosas”.

Gabriel nos recomienda que al visitar sectores rurales con drones, tengamos cuidado de no lastimar o asustar a los animales del sector, puesto que los drones emiten sonidos y se pueden espantar. También nos ha sugerido visitar el sector de la Virgen del Cajas, Turi y su mirador Boquerón y el Cerro Dorado en Nulti.

We also met Gabriel Yanza (@gabriel_art_); he is a photography teacher and started working with drones 4 years ago. Like several of our interviewees, this beginning was due to the search for new perspectives. Gabriel commented that taking photographs with a drone is very different: colours change, there are movements, different frames, etc. Although this equipment is perfect for video, there are many basic aspects of photography that work and can be adapted.

“Cuenca's architecture draws my attention. In the center you can easily fly. The lights at dawn and dusk, plus the light and contrast of the Domes of the Cathedral (for example)... you see beautiful images ”.

Gabriel recommends that when visiting rural sectors with drones, you should be careful not to hurt or scare the animals in the sector, since drones emit sounds and they could be frightened. He has also suggested that we visit the Virgen del Cajas sector, Turi and its Boquerón viewpoint, and Cerro Dorado in Nulti.

Finalmente, te presentamos a Christian Neira (@khrissneira), un comunicador que se ha dedicado también a la producción audiovisual. La producción con drones, para él, empezó hace 4 años como parte de las actividades universitarias. Posteriormente realizaba videos del Centro Histórico de Cuenca, amaneceres o atardeceres fuera de la ciudad: Tarqui, Cajas, Gualaceo, entre otros.

“Una vez, caminando por el Ingamullo (Gualaceo) encontramos un oso pequeño. Si yo me hubiese acercado, se hubiera ido, con el dron pudimos filmar un poquito más, sin espantarlo”.

Christian nos recomienda mucho las Cascadas de Racar y Nabón (muy cerca de Cuenca), como lugares para caminar, disfrutar y pilotear drones sin hacer daño a ninguna especie. Aquí también podrás encontrar una diversidad de flora, texturas del suelo, lagunas, etc.

“Salgo con grupos que hacen caminatas o amigos que quieran volar drones. Todos comenzamos viendo una foto y nos preguntamos quién es la persona que los hace. Nos comunicamos, hacemos preguntas... Lo que más me preguntan es cómo volar dentro de la ciudad, yo siempre les contesto con todo lo que sé. Hay que tomarse el tiempo para aportar y para aprender”.

Todos los pilotos de drones y fotógrafos nos han recomendado tener mucho cuidado con personas, aves y animales en la naturaleza, para no lastimarlos o dañarlos. “El drone no es un juguete”, hay que volar donde está permitido y respetar los espacios. Escuchar a los guardaparques de los sectores a los que llegamos y no dudes en consultar a personas con más experiencia en este tema, puesto que se trata de una comunidad que está muy abierta a responder todas tus inquietudes.

Finally, we introduce you to Christian Neira (@khrissneira). After studying Communications, he has also dedicated to audiovisual production. Drone production, for him, started 4 years ago as part of university activities. Later, he made videos of the Historic Center of Cuenca, sunrises or sunsets outside the city: Tarqui, Cajas, Gualaceo, among others.

“Once, while walking through Ingamullo (Gualaceo) we found a small bear. If I had come closer, he would have left, with the drone we could film a bit little more, without scaring it away ”.

Christian highly recommends the Racar Waterfalls and Nabón (very close to Cuenca), as places to walk, enjoy and pilot drones without harming any species. Here you can also find a diversity of flora, soil textures, lagoons, etc.

“I go out with groups that do hikes or friends who want to fly drones. We all start by looking at a photo and wondering who is the person who makes them. We get in touch, we ask questions... What people ask me the most is how to fly within the city, I always answer them with everything I know. You have to make the time to contribute and to learn ”.

All drone pilots and photographers have recommended us to be very careful with people, birds and animals in nature, so as not to injure or damage them. "Drones are not a toy", you have to fly where it is allowed and respect the spaces. Listen to the park rangers of the sectors you reach and do not hesitate to consult people with more experience in this matter, since it is a community that is very open to answering all your concerns.
