The magic of the Christmas lights route in Cuenca!
Como parte de las celebraciones de diciembre, que cada año comienzan con la fiesta de la Virgen Morenica del Rosario y terminan el 06 de enero (del siguiente año) con el Desfile de los Inocentes, la ciudad enciende también sus luces.
Este 2020, te recomendamos recorrer la Ruta de Navidad del Centro Histórico, sus alrededores y las parroquias rurales de Cuenca, con pequeños espectáculos de luces e instalaciones en las plazoletas icónicas.
Puedes comenzar en el Portal Artesanal (Sucre y Huayna Capac, esq.), un hermoso espacio al aire libre donde se encontrarás letras iluminadas para tomar las mejores fotografías y enviarlas a tus familiares. Te recomendamos seguir al Portal Artesanal, en sus redes sociales, puesto que podrás conseguir los mejores regalos artesanales en las Ferias Navideñas.
Mientras visitas algunos lugares comerciales, avanza hasta el Parque Calderón, puedes cenar en los lugares cercanos al Parque, para luego disfrutar de las luces del lugar: ángeles, aves, estrellas, los árboles decorados, nuestra famosa Glorieta, entre otros. Luego, desvía hacia Santo Domingo, una famosa plazoleta llena de palomas, frente a su iglesia. El lugar estará iluminado, para disfrute de los devotos.

Follow the Artisan Portal, on its social networks, since you can get the best artisan gifts at the Christmas Fairs. While visiting some shops, go to Calderón Park, you can dine in the places near the Park, and then enjoy the lights of the place: angels, birds, stars, decorated trees, our famous Glorieta, among others. Then, take a detour to Santo Domingo, a famous square full of pigeons, in front of its church. The place will be illuminated, for the enjoyment of the devotees.
En San Francisco te espera un enorme Árbol de Navidad, que ilumina este barrio tradicional. Una estructura metálica de 35 metros de alto, el árbol más grande del Ecuador, a solo dos cuadras del Parque Calderón. Recuerda que en las cercanías encontrarás comercios con artesanías, que podrían ser regalos navideños muy especiales. Consume en tiendas locales; mientras tú contribuyes con la activación económica, ellos te garantizan productos únicos y de gran calidad.
Te recomendamos las artesanías, como una opción para el intercambio de regalos en Nochebuena, puesto que en noviembre del 2020, Cuenca fue declarada: Ciudad Artesanal y Diversa del Mundo. Un reconocimiento entregado por el Consejo Mundial de Artesanías (World Craft Council), un organismo no gubernamental afiliado a la Unesco. Esto quiere decir, que definitivamente, las piezas que regales serán muy especiales.
Posteriormente, visita la Plaza de San Sebastián, toma un café, disfruta de los restaurantes internacionales y nacionales que te ofrece este sector de la ciudad. La Plaza y el Museo de Arte Moderno estarán activos durante la noche, para disfrute de los más jóvenes y los adultos de la familia. En las puertas de la Iglesia principal, encontrarás un gran regalo elaborado con pantallas iluminadas, puedes entrar y tomar fotografías. Los árboles de la plaza también están decorados con estrellas, ángeles y aves.
A huge Christmas Tree awaits you in San Francisco, lighting up this traditional neighborhood. A 35-meter-high metal structure, the largest tree in Ecuador, just two blocks from Calderón Park. Remember that nearby you will find shops with handicrafts, which could be very special Christmas gifts. Shop in local stores; while you contribute with the economic activation, they guarantee you unique and high quality products.

Baja hacia la Plaza del Otorongo, aquí disfrutarás de la mejor vista al Río Tomebamba y un gran Nacimiento. La propuesta lumínica cuenta con figuras de: San José, la Virgen María, el Niño Jesús, Buey y Burro. Alrededor, encontrarás un sin número de figuras y focos navideños que iluminan incluso el puente peatonal que cruza a la Av. 12 de abril.
Si sigues la Av. 12 de Abril, notarás una gran cantidad de adornos: alrededor de 200 figuras de velas, ángeles, aves, animales y flores, que alegran esta larga avenida.
Go down to the Plaza del Otorongo, here you will enjoy the best view of the Tomebamba River and a great Nativity. The lighting proposal has figures of: Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary, the Child Jesus, an Ox and a Donkey.
Around you, you will find a great number of figures and Christmas lights that even illuminate the pedestrian bridge that crosses to Av. 12 de abril. If you follow Av. 12 de Abril, you will notice many decorations: around 200 figures of candles, angels, birds, animals and flowers, which brighten up this long avenue.
¿Y las parroquias de Cuenca?
Este año, 14 parroquias rurales están listas e iluminadas para que las visites y te diviertas en Navidad: Turi, Sidcay, Chiquintad, Cumbe, San Joaquín, El Valle, Ricaurte, Baños, Tarqui, Molleturo, Paccha, Sinincay, Llacao y Checa.
Cada una tiene iluminada sus plazas e iglesias principales. Habrán árboles de Navidad, figuras y mensajes religiosos, iluminación en ríos y puentes peatonales.
Muy cerca a la ciudad, en Turi, aprovechando el espacio del anfiteatro (frente a la iglesia principal), encontrarás un gran árbol de Navidad, de 8 metros de altura, con secuencias de colores, personajes y mensajes navideños. En este espacio también está planificado realizarse un show lumínico con sincronía musical y vídeo, el Festival de Luces Navideñas.
Este es el primer año en que se realizará este espectáculo, completamente dedicado a los pequeños y pequeñas de casa. Las princesas de Disney estarán presentes: Blancanieves, Cenicienta, la Sirenita, Valiente, Elsa (princesa de Frozen), Mulán, entre otras. El GAD Parroquial de Turi y el sector privado trabajan junto a la empresa Navitech para que este espectáculo sea gratuito para los visitantes y lugareños.
Recuerda que es muy importante mantener el distanciamiento social para el cuidado de las familias. Cada presentación durará 10 minutos y se llevará a cabo cada hora, desde las 7 pm. Los asistentes podrán tomarse fotografías para luego despejar el espacio. Según la demanda, las presentaciones se podrán realizar cada media hora, los días jueves, viernes, sábado y domingo.
El primer show será este viernes 18 de diciembre. Recuerda que tendrás oportunidad de visitar todos estos espacios hasta el 06 de enero; organízate con tu familia, para no generar conglomeraciones.

Very close to the city, in Turi, at the amphitheater (in front of the main church), you will find a large Christmas tree, 8 meters high, with sequences of colours, characters and Christmas messages. In this spot a show of lights with music and video synchrony is also planned, the Festival of Christmas Lights.
This is the first year of this show, it's completely dedicated to the little ones at home. The Disney princesses will be present: Snow White, Cinderella, the Little Mermaid, Brave, Elsa (Frozen princess), Mulan, among others. The Parroquial GAD of Turi and the private sector work together with Navitech to make this show free for visitors and locals.
It is very important to remember to maintain social distancing for the care of families. Each presentation will last 10 minutes and will take place every hour, starting at 7 pm. Attendees will be able to take pictures and then clear the space. According to demand, the presentations could happen every half hour, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The first show will be this Friday, December 18. Remember that you will have the opportunity to visit all these spaces until January 6; get organized with your family, so you don't generate conglomerations. This December, Cuenca dresses up and expects you to visit all the points prepared, with Christmas motifs, to receive you.
