Cuenca's museums are ready to reopen
Por primera vez en algunos meses, visitamos esta antigua casona en San Sebastián, frente a su parque principal. Está ocupada por el Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno de Cuenca (MMAM), que -con mucho esfuerzo de sus técnicos- al fin está lista para abrir sus puertas nuevamente.
Durante los últimos meses, la Red Municipal de Museos trabajó en una amplia colección de exposiciones y visitas virtuales, conciertos, conversatorios -sobres estudios y apreciaciones-, talleres para niños y charlas, para mantener activo el sector cultural cuencano y a sus adeptos.
Junto a la Casa Museo Remigio Crespo Toral (Calle Larga y Borrero) y la Galería de la Alcaldía (Bolívar y Borrero, esq.) recibieron la insignia de “Cuenca Segura y Sostenible” de la Fundación de Turismo para Cuenca, que garantiza los estrictos protocolos de bioseguridad, como parte de la primera etapa de reapertura de la Red de Museos Municipales, a causa del problema salubre de COVID-19. Recuerda portar siempre tu mascarilla, en los Museos se encargarán de desinfectar tus manos y tus zapatos, al entrar.
For the first time in a few months, we visited this ancient big house in San Sebastián, in front of its main park. It is occupied by the Municipal Museum of Modern Art of Cuenca (MMAM), which -with much effort from its technicians- is finally ready to open its doors again.
During the last months, the Municipal Network of Museums worked on a wide collection of virtual exhibitions and visits, concerts, conversations -about studies and appreciations-, workshops for children, and talks to keep the cultural sector of Cuenca and its followers active.
Along with the Remigio Crespo Toral House Museum (Calle Larga y Borrero) and the Mayor's Gallery (Bolívar y Borrero, esq.), they received the “Cuenca, Safe and Sustainable” insignia, which guarantees strict biosafety protocols, as part of the first stage of reopening the Network of Municipal Museums, due to the health problem of COVID-19. Remember to always wear your mask, at the Museums they will take care of disinfecting your hands and shoes when you enter.
El MMAM cuenta con una exposición de alrededor de 20 artistas internacionales (Holanda, Finlandia, España, China, Estados Unidos, Cuba Perú, Argentina, etc.), “Trouble Diaries: Failure is the mother of success”. Es la tercera edición de una serie de exposiciones enfocadas en explorar los diferentes discursos y posicionamientos de artistas mujeres que viven y trabajan en diferentes partes del mundo. A través de una selección de obras en diferentes formatos: video, fotografía, grabado, pintura e instalación.
The MMAM has an exhibition of around 20 international artists (from Holland, Finland, Spain, China, United States, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, etc.), “Trouble Diaries: Failure is the mother of success”. It is the third edition of a series of exhibitions focused on exploring the different discourses and positions of women artists who live and work in different parts of the world. Through a selection of works in different formats: video, photography, engraving, painting and installation.

El Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno, la Casa Museo Remigio Crespo y la Galería de la Alcaldía estarán abiertas los lunes, miércoles y viernes de 10:00 a 13:00; los visitantes deberán hacer una cita previa. Los jardines del MMAM -en la mitad de la construcción- están abiertos, es posible fotografiarte entre las esculturas y los árboles de este hermoso y curioso lugar.

The Municipal Museum of Modern Art, the Remigio Crespo House Museum and the Mayor's Gallery will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 to 13:00; visitors must make an appointment. The gardens of the MMAM -in the middle of the construction- are open, it is possible to take photographs among the sculptures and the trees of this beautiful and curious place.
Por otro lado, en la Casa Museo Remigio Crespo Toral verás un amplia colección histórica, desde arqueología hasta pintura, trajes y máscaras coloniales, que van acorde al estilo del edificio.
Ten en cuenta que no será posible el ingreso al Archivo Histórico nivel +1, a las reservas de Arte y Arqueología nivel -2, así como también, no se podrá ingresar con mochilas, bolsos, cámaras con trípode u otros objetos. El objetivo es que el recorrido sea unidireccional, se ingresa por la entrada principal -en la Calle Larga- y se sale por la zona del jardín, donde está también el Café del Museo: un espacio perfecto para descansar luego de un recorrido por el Centro Histórico de Cuenca.

On the other hand, at the Remigio Crespo Toral House Museum you will see a wide historical collection, from archeology to painting, colonial costumes and masks, which match with the building’s style.
Keep in mind that it will not be possible to enter the Historical Archive level +1, Art and Archeology reserves level -2. Also, you will not be able to enter with backpacks, big bags, cameras with a tripod or other objects. The objective is for the visit to be only in one-way: you will enter through the main entrance -on Calle Larga- and will exit through the garden area, where the Museum Café is. This is a perfect place to rest after a walk by the Center Historic of Cuenca.

El Centro Interamericano de Artesanías y Artes Populares -CIDAP- es otro de los lugares importantes de la ciudad, que al aplicar los protocolos de bioseguridad, abre progresivamente sus espacios de visita.
Por el momento, están abiertas dos salas: Olga Fisch y Daniel Rubín de la Borbolla. Pueden ingresar 2 personas al mismo tiempo. También, los artesanos en sitio, estará ubicados a una distancia de 2 mtrs.

The Inter-American Center for Crafts and Popular Arts -CIDAP- is another important place in the city, which -by applying biosafety protocols- gradually opens its facilities to visitors. At the moment, two rooms are open: Olga Fisch and Daniel Rubín de la Borbolla. Two people can enter at the same time. Also, the artisans on site will be located at a distance of 2 mtrs.
